Carrying Water

Shannon can carry almost 50 pounds of water on her head in her purple plastic benoire.  Jill worked up to carrying the smaller blue pail that holds 3 gallons (24#).
It's really easier than it looks because the containers don't go right on the top of the head.  A piece of fabric rolled into a donut shape goes on top of the head to provide both padding and balance, and the spine carries the weight.

Below:  The woman on the left is carrying the rope and bag that is dropped down the well.  Heavy black rubber (probably from an inner tube) is sewn together to form the bag.
Shannon is at the front of this brigade followed by Jill in tan pants, and Jill's sister, Jean, in green pants.
