Butter Chews

3/4 cup butter
3 Tb sugar
1 1/2 c flour

Cream butter and sugar and blend thoroughly with flour. 
Spread and pat into a 9x13 pan. 
Bake 15 minutes in 350 oven. 
(Watch this carefully.  Edges should be browned but not burned.)

3 egg yolks beaten
2 1/4 c. brown sugar
1 c. chopped nuts
3/4 c. shredded or flaked coconut
3 egg whites beaten

Mix sugar into yolks.  Add coconut and nuts. 
Fold in 3 beaten egg whites.  Pour over baked crust. 
Bake 20-25 minutes.

When slightly cooled, sprinkle with powdered sugar and cut into squares.
